Marcus Arrives! 6-30-08
We had a long trip home with Marcus - 5 1/2 hours, and he
was an absolute angel all the way.

Marcus is getting plenty of visitors, and he just loves
it - in between his laying flat out in the sun naps that
is! He is really sweet and just loves everyone.
We do know that Marcus was bred for racing (never raced
or trained) and was sent to auction by his owner, as he
could not be bothered training him.
Elaine Cardillo, Natural Horse Trainer and Eileen Shanahan
featured on "Talkinhorses"
T.V. (of nickernetwork)
were over today (7-02) with video tape as Elaine started
basic training with Marcus. Marcus' first lesson was to
lead, back up, stand quietly, pick up his feet, and he learned
about fly spray. He will continue lesson's from Elaine every
week and we are grateful for her knowledge and help, what
a great start for Marcus!
Thank you Lisa for all your help, and bringing Marcus home.

Update- 6-20-08
Marcus is still a little swollen but he had an ultrasound
today and has been cleared by the vet to travel and he will
be here with us soon!
Update 6-02-08
Today vet who did the surgery came to examine Marcus (still
at Shannon's) as we were concerned about his swelling. The
vet found that he had developed a hematoma (blood clot),
and also found scar tissue in his scrotum (area where he
had been gelded).
He sedated Marcus and removed the scar tissue and blood
clot. Marcus is also been turned out in a slightly larger
area- (24/7) which should help bring down the swelling.
We know he is going to love the turnout, and we are hoping
for a speedy recovery. The vet will be back in one week
to evaluate his progress, and hopefully Marcus will be here
with us within the next week or so.
Marcus is being checked by the vet each week, and his swelling
is coming down quite a bit now.

Bella officially welcomes Marcus into the rescue. This
beautiful 2 year old Thoroughbred is our youngest rescue
to date. In need of a hernia operation, Marcus was rescued
from Camelot Auction, New Jersey.

Many people had a helping hand in getting Marcus safe and
healthy.
Thanks to:
Colleen Segara from Equine
Rescue Resource who moved so quickly with so little
time to get Marcus safe - great rescue.
Erin in Duchess County (N.Y.) who fostered and cared for
Marcus immediately after being rescued, as all plans for
his surgery and aftercare were being put into action.
Dawn Mellen and the Board of Directors of After
the Finish Line (Ca.) who so quickly stepped up with
your very generous donation for the hernia and gelding surgery
for Marcus, which was done on 5-08-08.

Marcus' Hernia
Shannon of Double
L Stable Equine Rescue and Sanctuary for donating Marcus
30 day stall rest after his surgery, with such excellent
care. Thank you for setting up a special area with lots
of sunshine, friends and fresh air for Marcus.
I am sure he will miss you Shannon, and his equine buddies
who gave him comfort and company while healing! Oh, and
of course the treats!
The Faculty of Willets Road School, Roslyn Heights N.Y.
for your support and donation- which will go directly towards
shipping costs to get Marcus here.
And thank you Dave & Lisa for fostering Marcus.
It is teamwork that made this rescue happen, and go so
very well. It is something, how so many people so far away
from each other can work together for a common good.
Now it is our turn to help Marcus, and we cannot wait to
get him here and on his way to a happy new life! After he
arrives, and settles in we will start his training on basic
handling and groundwork.
Welcome you lucky handsome guy!
