Bill H.R. 503 -
On January 17, 2007 Representative Schakowsky,
Janice D. (D-IL-9) introduced legislation that would ban
the slaughter of horses and export for slaughter by amending
The Horse Protection Act. It states:
To amend the Horse Protection Act to prohibit the shipping,
transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing,
purchasing, selling, or donation of horses and other equines
to be slaughtered for human consumption, and for other purposes.
The bill was referred to the House Committee on Energy and
Commerce, and had 15 originating co-sponsors. View
bill's current list of co-sponsors (link). View
bill text here.
In the last session of Congress, the AHSPA had 228 co-sponsors,
and it would be highly beneficial to have these same legislators
remain committed to this issue by supporting this new legislation.
Keep the pressure up - Did you know that congress counts
each letter recieved the opinion of ten people? To take
action and join the nationwide fight to end horse slaughter
for good --let our politicians know this is NOT acceptable
in our country
